Anadolu Ajansi, a Turkiye’s state news agency reported, citing “official” sources, that the Israeli authorities had requested permission for Herzog’s plane to use Turkish airspace to attend the COP29 conference, and that the request was rejected.
“Officials confirmed that Israeli authorities submitted the request for Herzog’s plane to traverse Turkish airspace en route to the 29th United Nations Climate Change Conference. However, Turkish authorities declined his request” said Anadolu.
In his speech to COP29, the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan denounced that the current Israeli government continues to kill people indiscriminately and causes massive environmental destruction, alluding to the constant aggression against Palestinians, and the current escalation with Hizbula in Lebanon.
The spokesman for the office of the Israeli president reported today that Herzog will not attend the climate conference in Baku for security reasons.
“In light of the assessment of the situation and for security reasons, the president of the state (of Israel) decided to cancel his trip to the Climate Conference in Azerbaijan,” confirmed today to the news agency EFE in Jerusalem one of executive’s spokesmen.
